Kelly Fleming, Adelaide, Australia: "Love One Another"

Kelly Fleming

This photo was taken on a hot December day for my dear friend and her family. They had been living in Australia for two years and were heading back to their home in Colorado, USA. I was so touched when she asked me to photograph them and knew immediately we needed to head to the beach. This photo is all about love—the love that this family has for each other. They are such an example of that. This family will always seek for service opportunities. The love that they have for Australia and the love that we Aussies have for them can be shown through service. When I look at this photo, I think about this wonderful family and the way they have touched so many lives through loving and caring for others without hesitation, as the Savior would. I think of His example and the way He leads us through love. He calls us to come follow Him, to follow in His footsteps, and to love one another.

Trudy Montgomery, Seattle, Washington: "I Belong to the Church of Jesus Christ"

Trudy Montgomery

On July 3rd, the day before my son’s baptism, we went to a local park for a photo shoot. I wanted the shoot to focus on the importance of his decision to be baptized while also capturing his future goal of one day serving a mission like his father whose badge he's wearing, and his current goal to read the Book of Mormon. It has been a few years since his baptism day, and this little missionary’s love for the scriptures has continued to grow as he prepares for his next big step of receiving the Aaronic Priesthood.

Matthew and Sarah Briggs, Cedar Hills, Utah: “Walking in Grandmother’s Shoes”

David Winters

Matthew Briggs:

This girl loves to play! And most of the time playing means we need to leave our apartment, and that's why Ester learned the words “shoes” and “bye-bye" early on. As soon as we ask Essie if she wants to go “bye-bye,” she immediately says yes and runs off to get her shoes. Usually my wife and I aren't ready to walk out the door when we ask Essie if she wants to leave, so Ester will round up our shoes and put them on our feet to help us along.  Putting on shoes has turned into a little family game.

This photo was taken during our yearly family picture photo shoot. My wife couldn't decide on which shoes to wear (her own pair or a pair of her Mom's—the one pictured here) so we brought them both. Since Ester loves to put on shoes, we brought them with us as we took pictures. This is Ester trying to walk in her grandmother's shoes. Ester’s grandmother is a wonderful example and we hope that Ester can grow into her grandmother’s shoes and become a kind, nice, and fun woman, mother, and future grandmother.

Sarah Briggs:

I love this picture because it teaches me two things:

  1. Our little girl has great potential. Her worth is so great in the sight of God and He is guiding her step by step to help her understand it. She will wear many shoes in her life, but the ones that are most important are the ones that say, “I stand with God.”
  2. She is following in my footsteps. This overwhelming responsibility continues to become reality as she mimics everything that I do. I pray and hope that I can be an adequate example for her and guide her in God's ways.
