Amy Jensen, Logan, Utah: “Family Home Evening Activity”

As our four children have grown older over the past few years, they have come to love and look forward to family home evening. It has been a great opportunity to spend time together and learn the gospel each week.

This photograph is a result of one of those nights when we took the kids to the baseball diamond to hit the ball and play catch. We have found that no matter what activity we choose to do for the night, we have enjoyed the time we’ve spent together, and as a result our family has grown closer.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf said it best when he stated, “In family relationships love is really spelled t-i-m-e, time.”

Jeanne Miller, Idaho, “Boy Scout Playing 'Taps' ”

My 15-year-old son loves playing the trumpet. He plays in the band at his high school and is also his troop bugler. This summer he earned his Bugling Merit Badge, as well as his Eagle Scout Award. Since he earned his Eagle Award in the centennial year of the Scouting program, we wanted to get some pictures for his court of honor that had a little bit of a feel of some of the BSA trading cards he got this past year at a Boy Scout Jamboree—a couple of them depicting a Scout bugler in different settings that were on the cover of Boys' Life magazine once upon a time. We kind of merged the ideas from both paintings and set out to get some photographs a bit east of Idaho Falls before the sun set.

We framed a few of the pictures we took that evening for his court of honor, and we featured some of the trading cards and other items that represented the history of the Boy Scouts of America.

We are very grateful for the Scouting program. It has given our son many opportunities he would not have had otherwise, as well as encouraged him to make goals and see them through. We are also appreciative of the many leaders he's had. Seven years ago, when our son turned 8 and we had just moved to Idaho, we sure didn't know much about Scouting, but we've had a lot of help every step of the way!
