Baptisms for the dead

Build testimonies of the temple and family history work, and participate in redeeming the dead.

Attend the temple to participate in baptisms and confirmations for the dead. If possible, prepare a family name or names for baptism beforehand, and discuss the blessings of serving in the temple (see “Service,” For the Strength of Youth [2011], 32–33).

If there is not a temple in your area, youth can prepare to attend the temple someday by obtaining a limited-use temple recommend, doing their own family history work to qualify their ancestors for temple ordinances, and learning about the blessings of temple service. Youth could also review Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the video “Why Mormons Build Temples,” or the booklet “Preparing to Enter The Holy Temple” to learn about temples throughout the world and share their thoughts about their desires to go.
