4 Prophets Who Have Seen Our Day

Eric B. Murdock Church Magazines

What prophets have seen in our day says a lot about what God sees in you!

Have you ever asked yourself why you’re on earth at this time? Out of all the world’s history, you’re here now. Some say that’s a coincidence, but prophets throughout time have said it’s actually quite significant.

President Russell M. Nelson said: “Every prophet commencing with Adam has seen our day. And every prophet has talked about our day, when Israel would be gathered and the world would be prepared for the Second Coming of the Savior. Think of it! Of all the people who have ever lived on planet earth, we are the ones who get to participate in this final, great gathering event. How exciting is that!

“Our Heavenly Father has reserved many of His most noble spirits—perhaps, I might say, His finest team—for this final phase. Those noble spirits—those finest players, those heroes—are you!” (Watch the entire Worldwide Youth Devotional.)

Here are four prophets who’ve seen our day and the part you can play in preparing the world for the Savior’s Second Coming.

Enoch

Thousands of years ago, Enoch prophesied that “righteousness and truth will [the Lord] cause to sweep the earth as with a flood” (Moses 7:62). One way the Lord does this is through technology. For example, through social media, you can show that you are a disciple of Jesus Christ and share your testimony with people all over the world.

Isaiah

Because of disobedience and rebellion, Israel was taken captive by other nations, scattered, and lost. Through His prophets, God promised that Israel would be gathered in the latter days. The prophet Isaiah saw that the Lord would send “swift messengers” to those who were “scattered and … meted out and trodden under foot” (see Isaiah 18:2, 7).

President Nelson asked, “Would you like to be among those ‘swift messengers’ of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke?” You can be by sharing the gospel with your friends, family, and neighbors.

Nephi

Just like Isaiah, Nephi saw that Israel would be gathered and “come to the knowledge of their Redeemer and the very points of his doctrine, that they may know how to come unto him and be saved” (1 Nephi 15:14).

Missionary work, temple work, and family history work are all part of this gathering. President Nelson said, “Anytime you do anything that helps anyone—on either side of the veil—take a step toward making covenants with God and receiving their essential baptismal and temple ordinances, you are helping to gather Israel.”

Joseph Smith

In the tenth article of faith, Joseph Smith said we believe “in the literal gathering of Israel” and prophesied that Zion will be built again and Christ will return and “reign personally upon the earth.” (Read “Meet Brother Joseph.”) The gathering of Israel started in Joseph’s day, and it continues today. We are a part of that gathering when we share the gospel with our friends, our neighbors, and others we meet.

You Can Do This!

Just like past prophets, our prophet today, President Russell M. Nelson, has taught: “You were sent to earth at this precise time, the most crucial time in the history of the world, to help gather Israel. There is nothing happening on this earth right now that is more important than that. There is nothing of greater consequence. Absolutely nothing.

As we do what we can to follow the prophet and accomplish the Lord’s work, we will be blessed. President Nelson has said, “It is my testimony that when we follow through with whatever the prophet of God asks us to do, the way will be opened and lives will be changed.”

Error in form submission. Make sure all field are filled out properly and try again.
