Behind “Good to Be Alive”

Regan Rindlisbacher

If we follow God’s commandments, He will bless us with happiness.

The music from the 2015 Mutual theme album was written and performed by youth. This is Regan’s story about writing her song, “Good to Be Alive.”

I wrote this song because I want everyone to know that God loves us. There are a lot of reasons to be happy even if we’re going through a hard time.

A while ago I was really struggling with my self-confidence and I hit a really low point. I decided to ask my dad to give me a blessing. In the blessing I was told that the Lord loves me and He wants to be closer to me. He said I hadn’t been doing enough to stay close to Him and I needed to pray more and read my scriptures.

Everyone should know that God loves us, and if we draw closer to Him, He will help us to be happier.

The next week at church I was talking to my Young Women leader and she challenged me to read the Book of Mormon so I could finish my Personal Progress. I took the challenge and read the entire Book of Mormon. During that time I felt a lot of spiritual protection and I felt closer to God. Because I was reading the scriptures I wanted to be a better person and I listened to the Spirit more.

After that experience, I felt better about myself. I was happier and more confident because I knew I was doing what God wanted me to do.

So that’s why I decided to write a song about being happy and grateful. Everyone should know that God loves us, and if we draw closer to Him, He will help us to be happier.
