Elder and Sister Soares

He was born in Brazil.

Elder Soares is the first Apostle from South America. He was born in Sao Paul, Brazil, and speaks Portuguese, Spanish, and English.

He first went to church in a bakery.

When he was five years old, his aunt sent the missionaries to his family. His parents were soon baptized, and when he turned eight, so was young Ulisses. They first attended branch services on the upper floor of a bakery with the smell of fresh bread wafting up.

He’s an accounting and economics expert.

He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and economics and a master of business administration degree. He worked as an accountant and auditor for multinational corporations in Brazil and then as director of temporal affairs in Brazil.

After being sustained as an Apostle of the Lord, Elder Soares talked about why living prophets are a blessing to us

“Isn’t it a blessing to have prophets, seers, and revelators on earth in these days in which we live, who seek to know the will of the Lord and follow it? It is comforting to know that we are not alone in the world, despite the challenges we face in life. Having prophets is a sign of God’s love for His children. They make known the promises and the true nature of God and of Jesus Christ to Their people. I have learned that through my personal experiences.”
