Come, Follow Me is an exciting new way of teaching and learning. It’s also a major change, and you may have questions.
You can find answers to some common questions below. You can also ask your own questions by clicking on Share your experience at the bottom of the article. Check back to see if we’ve added an answer to your question on this page.
Why the Change?
With the challenges you face in the world today, it is more important than ever to learn, live, and share the truth. With Come, Follow Me, that will happen as you actively search the scriptures, share your thoughts, and accept invitations to apply what you’re learning.
How Does It Work?
Youth in over 40 stakes worldwide have already tried out the new curriculum. They share their positive experiences in several brief videos online.
- We Learn
Young men and young women who have participated in Come, Follow Me talk about how learning has changed for the better.
- We Teach
You’re not there just to listen. Learn how helping to teach will also help you to learn.
- We Share
When you come prepared to share your insights, everyone’s experience can become more meaningful.
- We Act
Accepting the challenge to act on what you’ve learned—and helping each other keep commitments—has become a highlight for the youth involved.
- We Become
Strengthening your testimony, deepening friendships, and preparing for future roles are just some of the results of becoming truly converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
What Will I Be Learning?
Your Sunday School classes, in addition to Aaronic Priesthood and Young Women classes, will focus on a specific doctrine each month. The lessons will be based on gospel questions you have. For example, in January 2013, you’ll be learning about the Godhead, focusing on questions such as:
- What do we know about the nature of the Godhead?
- How can I know my Heavenly Father?
- Why is Jesus Christ important in my life?
- What are the roles of the Holy Ghost?
- Who am I, and who can I become?
In Sunday School, you’ll no longer be studying the scriptures in consecutive order (for example, the Doctrine and Covenants one year and the Old Testament the next).
Will This Affect Mutual?
The monthly themes can help you focus your Mutual activities around your learning. Class and quorum presidencies are encouraged to think about the themes while planning Mutual activities. Activity ideas from the lesson outlines can be a starting point in that planning.
How Does This Affect Seminary?
Seminary will continue to focus on a book of scripture (such as the New Testament or Book of Mormon) each year, just as it has in the past.
How Will This Help Me Prepare for a Mission?
Getting to know and care about those you teach, as well as learning to teach the gospel by the Spirit, are at the heart of missionary service. President Monson has asked the Aaronic Priesthood holders of the Church, “Are you prepared to serve?” (Watch the video here.) The skills you’ll gain from following and participating in Come, Follow Me can help you answer President Monson’s question with a resounding “Yes!”
