Youth Voices: Meet the Mormons

Youth write about their experience watching the new Meet the Mormons film.

Meet the Mormons is the Church’s first-ever motion picture. It tells the story of six extraordinary individuals from around the world who meet their daily struggles with faith in Jesus Christ. The film will appear in theaters across the United States beginning on October 10, 2014. All net proceeds from the film will go to charity.

The following youth saw the movie. Read what they’re saying about Meet the Mormons.

“The movie Meet the Mormons opened my heart and mind to more of what it means to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These six individuals have awesome stories to tell. It was pretty neat to see the different cultures and the different ways that people show their faith. This movie really creates a better understanding of Mormons and what they believe. I highly suggest that if you haven't seen it you should watch it. Even if you have seen it, go see it again and invite friends of yours who may be inactive or someone who just doesn’t know very much about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is an inspiring movie and definitely worth it!” —Elli E.

“I absolutely love this movie. It definitely strengthened my testimony about missionary work. It helped me to realize how important it is to share the gospel. You never know how sharing the gospel with someone could change their life. One of my favorite stories in this movie was Dawn Armstrong’s story. She felt like God didn’t care about her and that He didn’t love her. But because a store clerk asked her if she was religious and if she would like a blessing from the missionaries, it changed her life for the better. This was a great example to me of how I can be a missionary now. I don't need to have a nametag to share the gospel. Just by being kind, talking to someone, or sitting at lunch with someone who is alone and needs a friend I am sharing the gospel. I am so grateful for the lesson that this movie taught me about missionary work.” —Taylen M.

“I was really looking forward to the Meet the Mormons movie and it is the best! There are no words that can describe how strong the Spirit was throughout the movie. To me it made a very good point. We live in a world that is full of misconceptions about our Church. I learned in the movie that we need to live up to the teachings of the gospel. We should always be good examples of Christ. We should always be willing to serve others and make a difference in this world. The movie changed the way I feel about what it means to be a Mormon. I invite all of you to see this movie and have an amazing experience. I'm definitely going to see it again!” —Tana B.

“I had the chance to see the new Church movie Meet the Mormons and wow, it surely was amazing. Going into it you might think of it as just another Church clip like a Mormon Message or an ‘I’m a Mormon’ video, but it is not. It goes way beyond the expectations I ever had. It takes six amazing stories of ordinary Mormons all over the world and shows you how they live their lives. Watching the movie made me realize how blessed I really am. Seeing this movie made me want to be a better person and help others in every way. And I hope when you all see it, you love it as much as I did.” —Cassidy W.

Meet the Mormons was amazing! Actually it was beyond amazing. It was beautiful, inspirational, funny—I could go on but I think you get the point. One of my favorite parts was the story about the football coach at the naval academy. In one scene he is shown on the sidelines of a very intense football game doing all he can do to motivate his team on the field. The scene shifts suddenly to the coach sitting in a tiny chair, singing songs with a Primary class that he teaches on Sundays. The contrast is hilarious! Dawn Armstrong is featured in this film as well. Her story is so incredibly inspiring. As a struggling teenager she made a choice that changed the course of her life forever. Our life on this earth is a journey. We all have our struggles and nobody was meant to go through this journey alone. We all have the basic need to love and be loved, and the gospel of Jesus Christ unifies us through His love.” —Whitney Z.
