Inside front cover: Philip Teaching the Ethiopian, by Robert T. Barrett, oil on canvas, 24″ x 30″, 1990. “And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south … from Jerusalem.” Doing so, Philip came near an Ethiopian of great authority who was sitting in his chariot reading Isaiah. “Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.” As he came near, Philip said, “Understandest thou what thou readest? And [the man] said, How can I, except some man should guide me? … Then Philip … preached unto him Jesus. And … they came unto a certain water: and the [man] said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God,” and Philip baptized him (see Acts 8:26–39).

Inside back cover: He Prepareth a Table before Me, by Jeanne Leighton-Lundberg, oil on canvas, 42″ x 60″, 1994. This view of an abundantly spread table is representative of the loving care of the Good Shepherd described in the Twenty-third Psalm: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. … Thou preparest a table before me … ; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever” (see Ps. 23:1–6).
