“Funstuff: New Year Hobbies,” Friend, Jan. 2016, 37
Heavenly Father has given us a wonderful world to enjoy! These friends want to each try a new hobby as one of their goals for the new year. Draw a chart with the seven names down the side and the seven hobbies across the top. Use the clues to figure out each friend’s hobby! (Answers below.)
Maria likes music but not sports.
Benjamin wants a hobby that can be done entirely inside his kitchen.
John and Kim want to collect something, and John loves bright colors..
Luke doesn’t like sports.
Stephanie is choosing a sport.
The soccer player’s name has one syllable.
Think of a number between 1 and 10. Now double it.
Add 8. Now divide it in half.
Subtract the original number you thought of.
Got the number? Now, that number represents a letter in the alphabet, where 1=A, 2=B, and so forth.
Think of a country that starts with that letter.
Now think of a big animal that starts with the second letter of that country’s name. Imagine the color of that animal.
Next, think of—hold on a second. There are no gray elephants in Denmark!
Try this out on your family and friends. It should workabout 90% of the time, but there’s always the chance they’ll pick another “D” country (there aren’t many to choose from) or a different animal. See if you can figure out how the math works.
